Description
This 3 day course will provide the technical knowledge and competencies to allow electricians and electrical engineers to investigate a power quality issue.

There are numerous power quality issues that can affect the operation of electrical equipment and this course takes the learner from the initial contact with the internal or external customer through all parts of the investigation to assessing all the data and recommending solutions. It also provides proactive guidance on the connection of new loads to prevent problems.

The compatibility and planning limits to prevent issues for the various power quality parameters are discussed and case studies investigated on an individual site and network wide basis.

In this litigious society, it is more important than ever for network providers to manage power quality effectively and for electricity users to understand the technical issues around supply quality.

There are 16 modules and capstone in this course as follows:

- Logging Standards and Principles
- System Reliability
- Steady State Voltage
- Voltage Swells, Dips and Fluctuations
- Induction Motor Starting Issues
- Voltage Unbalance
- Waveform Distortion
- Transients
- Miscellaneous PQ Issues
- Introduction to EMF Issues
- Electromagnetic Interference including TV and Radio Interference
- Power and Electric Energy Measurements
- Fault Loop Impedance
- Capstone where a case study is investigated, logged result must be analysed and causes and solutions must be provided.

The capstone pulls much of the course together in an assessment format to ensure that trainees have the concepts and competencies to analyse the data collected and come to the correct decisions.

Trainees have 90 days to complete this course but this time limit can be extended if needed.

  • All units must be completed
  • Leads to a certification with a duration: 3 years
